SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The Springfield Symphony Orchestra season has returned to Downtown Springfield. Saturday night kicking off opening night with a new theme for the 81st season, "A Tapestry of Music"."We're trying very intentionally to bring in the wonderful diversity of musical selections and traditions that reflect are the beautiful area that we live in," shared Paul Lambert, President & CEO, Springfield Symphony Orchestra. The Springfield Symphony Orchestra began the new season with the "New England Reverie," the first of nine distinct concerts. Saturday's concert making a historic occasion for the orchestra featuring a female conductor and pianist, both performing a composition by a female composer. "Tonight I'm in for a big surprise, I can't say what I'm looking for because I know what to expect...nothing else but wonderful music," shared Martha Brodsky, who has been attending the Springfield Symphony Orchestra for over 40 years. The Springfield Symphony Orchestra is the largest Massachusetts symphony outside of Boston with musicians from nationwide and Canada. Each year bringing the community together through the power of music to heal and story-tell.
