Brady Jones completed 19 of 33 passes for 307 yards and tossed six touchdown passes to lead the Riverside City College football team to a 62-10 victory over Grossmont in a National-Southern Conference game Saturday afternoon in El Cajon. RCC (5-1 overall, 3-0 in conference) raced to a 28-0 lead in the opening half. Jones threw two touchdowns passes to Ross Nickson III (24 yards, 2 yards) and another to Jackson Owens (25 yards) in the first quarter. Jones connected with Beau Bruins for a 48-yard touchdown pass and Owens for a 77-yard score in the second period. Marquis Monroe returned the second-half kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown, and Jones fired a 25-yard touchdown pass to Andre Branch later in the third period to extend the Tigers’ lead to 48-7. RCC has won four straight games since its 37-36 loss to Golden West on Sept. 14. The Tigers have averaged 64 points per game during the winning streak, and Jones has passed for 1,656 yards and 21 touchdowns over those four games. Esaia Bogar has three of the five sacks registered by RCC’s defense Saturday. RCC hosts Southwestern in a National-Southern game Saturday, Oct. 26, at Wheelock Stadium in Riverside. REDLANDS GETS PAST CAL LUTHERAN Jaden Casey intercepted a pass on a 2-point conversion attempt in the closing seconds as University of Redlands held on for a 17-15 victory over Cal Lutheran in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game Saturday at William Rolland Stadium in Thousand Oaks. The teams traded field goals in the first quarter, with Redlands’ Aidan Petruescu nailing a 44-yard kick and Cal Lutheran’s Daniel Burgos converting from 25-yards. Cal Lutheran took a 6-3 lead in the second quarter when Burgos drilled a 28-yard field goal. Redlands (2-4 overall, 2-2 in conference) regained the lead later in the second quarter when quarterback Jayden McKey broke free for a 79-yard touchdown run. The Bulldogs extended the lead to 17-6 after Calel Olicia-Aramboles scored on a 1-yard run with 1:42 left in the third period. Cal Lutheran battled back. Burgos kicked his third field goal of the game, a 23-yarder, with 5:23 left in the game. The Kingsmen got within 17-15 when Gabe Landless scored on a 1-yard run with 20 seconds remaining on the clock. Redlands recovered the onside kick attempt by Cal Lutheran and ran out the remaining time on the clock. McKey ran for 104 yards on 10 carries, and Olicia-Aramboles added xx yards on 12 carries. POMONA-PIZTER HOLDS OFF CHAPMAN Pomona-Pitzer’s defense came up with a stop in the final seconds to preserve a 21-17 victory over Chapman in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game Saturday at Chapman Stadium in Orange. Pomona-Pitzer (4-2 overall, 3-1 in conference) took that 21-17 lead when Nick Kim connected with Mitchell Rosenbuagh for a 21-yard touchdown pass with 9:55 remaining in the game. The score was still 21-17 when Chapman took possession with a little more than 3 minutes left on the clock. The Panthers drove 72 yards to the Pomona-Pitzer 17 but faced fourth-and-10 after three incomplete passes. Joey Yellen scrambled but was tackled by Thomas McConnell 2 yards short of the first-down marker with a few seconds remaining to play. There was a holding penalty on the play, which Pomona-Pitzer declined. Sander Wimmer tossed a 75-yard touchdown to Matthias Olson to give Pomona-Pitzer a 7-0 lead late in the opening quarter. The Sagehens host La Verne in a SCIAC game Saturday, Oct. 28, at Merritt Field in Claremont. CHAFFEY ROLLS PASS WEST LA Chaffey College’s 15-game win streak was snapped earlier this month, but the Panthers bounced back with a 53-14 victory over West LA College in an American-Metro Conference opener Saturday at Wildcat Stadium in Culver City. Corey Cabriales caught two touchdown passes from Julian Viramontes and also returned a punt for a touchdown Saturday. Chaffey (5-1 overall) grabbed a 10-0 lead in the first quarter on a 27-yard field goal by Mustafa Hynin and a 31-yard scoring run by Alapaki Paiva. Viramontes and Cabriales connected on a pair of 28-yard touchdowns to push the lead to 24-7 at halftime. The Panthers host Desert in an American-Metro game Saturday, Oct. 26 at Grigsby Field in Rancho Cucamonga. MSJC HAMMERS SOUTHWESTERN Logan Gonzalez completed 29 of 32 passes for 290 yards and two touchdowns as Mt. San Jacinto College pulled away for a 45-3 victory over Southwestern in a National-Southern Conference game Saturday at Devore stadium in Chula Vista. MSJC (4-2 overall, 2-1 in conference) got on the scoreboard when Jared Kuchinski kicked a 38-yard field goal in the first period. The Eagles started to pull away in the second period. Gonzalez tossed a 5-yard touchdown pass to Koa Apana, and Daniel Mendoza and Jamrcus Clemmons had touchdown runs to give MSCJ a 24-3 lead at the break. Gonzalez and Apana connected for a 12-yard touchdown pass midway through the third period, and Clemmons added a second touchdown run late in the fourth quarter. Apana caught seven passes for 78 yards for the Eagles. MSJC hosts San Diego Mesa in a National-Southern game Saturday, Oct. 26 at HCN Bank Stadium in Menifee. C-M-S ROUTS LA VERNE Justin Edwards ran for 122 yards on 22 carriers and scored three touchdowns as Claremont-Mudd-Scripps cruised to a 57-14 victory over La Verne in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game Saturday at Zinda Field in Claremont. C-M-S (5-1 overall, 3-1 in conference) grabbed the lead when Mason Cotton returned a punt 67 yards for a touchdown with 12:39 remaining in the first quarter. Edwards scored on a 3-yard run later in the period to help extend the Stags’ lead to 14-0. La Verne (0-6, 0-4) got on the board when Arthur McCown scored on a 2-yard run with 2:44 left in the opening quarter. From there, however, it was all C-M-S, which scored the next 33 points. Walter Kuhlenkamp threw touchdown passes to Daniel Rosenberg (39 yards) and Ben Kim (5 yards) in the second quarter, and Joey Asta returned an interception 12 yards for a touchdown in the third period. McCown and Masen Uribe combined to rush for 107 yards for La Verne. C-M-S plays University of Redlands in a SCIAC game Saturday, Oct. 26, at Ted Runner Stadium in Redlands.
