RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- An Out of the Darkness Community Walk took place in Richmond this weekend to raise awareness and funds for suicide prevention. On Saturday, Oct. 19, community members from all over came to Byrd Park in Richmond to take part in the Out of the Darkness walk which helps bring awareness to lives lost and lives effected due to suicide. Samantha Link, chair of the Richmond Out of the Darkness Walk, spoke with 8News about what an event like this can provide for those who are struggling. "I think it's important for people to know that if they have someone that they're worried about, reach out to them," Link said. "Someone having that feeling of 'someone cares enough to make sure I'm okay, to check in with me' could be the change that just helps them through another day." The event is hosted in collaboration with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention -- to see more about the cause and to see how much has been raised so far, visit this link.
