MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The suspect Memphis Police say was involved in the shooting death of a woman led law enforcement on a high-speed chase through multiple counties. After allegedly shooting a woman in Shelby Farms around 12:15 p.m. the suspect fled Shelby County in an attempt to evade law enforcement. According to the Dyer County Sheriff's Office, the pursuit went through Tipton County, Lauderdale County before he was intercepted by Dyer County Deputies on Highway 51 as the vehicle continued going the wrong way into oncoming traffic. ORIGINAL STORY: Woman dead after getting shot at Shelby Farms; suspect detained The suspect allegedly attempted to use his vehicle to run over a Dyer County sergeant who set up spike strips at the county line. (DCSO) The suspect allegedly began fighting officers while they attempted to apprehend him. He was eventually taken into custody and a firearm was located inside his vehicle. The suspect was taken to a local emergency room for evaluation by EMS and is receiving medical attention. Suspect hurt in shootout with deputy in Cordova: SCSO Tipton County Sheriff Shannon Beasley said that the suspect will face charges in both Tipton and Shelby Counties and possibly others. "First, our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the victim of the homicide," Beasley said. "It is truly a sad situation, we lift them up and ask our communities for your prayers as well for this family. What started as a simple traffic stop quickly escalated into a very volatile situation. I am thankful for the safe outcome for all the law enforcement officers involved in this dangerous pursuit. It is clear the suspect had no intentions to stop and was trying to escape at all costs."
