One person dead, one deputy injured in crash

OWENSTOWN, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – One person has died and an Owen County Sheriff’s Deputy was injured in a crash on Friday.
According to Kentucky State Police, around 2:20 p.m. troopers were called to U.S. 127 North near KY 36 for a crash involving a Sheriff Deputy.
Through an investigation, KSP found that 31-year-old Deputy Frank Blackwell was driving North on U.S. 127 with his lights and sirens on. As he tried to pass slower-moving traffic, 71-year-old Kathleen Fresard turned into Blackwell’s path leading to the crash.
Fresard was pronounced dead after being transported by helicopter.
Deputy Blackwell was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and has been released.
The investigation remains ongoing.
