INDIANAPOLIS — A shooting on the near east side of Indianapolis left a man dead Saturday night. According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were called to 100 block of North Oxford Street around 10:23 p.m. on a report of shots fired. When police arrived at the scene, they located an adult male with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds inside a residence. The man was transported from the scene to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition. IMPD later confirmed that the man died at the hospital. Police believe the shooting stemmed from some sort of disturbance that unfolded inside the residence they found the victim in. IMPD indicated only one person was found at the scene of the shooting, not counting the victim. Detectives interviewed that person, but they have not yet identified any suspects or other witnesses. Police are asking those with information on the incident to contact the IMPD Homicide Office at (317) 327-3475 or Crime Stoppers Central Indiana at (317) 262-8477. As of this article's publication, no additional information on the incident had been made available. IMPD responded to two homicides Saturday night. The other fatal shooting happened around 9:22 p.m. on Drexel Avenue, which is located less than five miles from Oxford Street. Two other individuals walked into area hospitals with gunshot wounds Saturday night. One victim checked into Community East Hospital sometime before 8:37 p.m., and the other went to St. Francis Hospital sometime before 10:33 p.m. Both of the victims who walked into area hospitals with gunshot wounds on Saturday night are in stable condition, according to IMPD.
