Alex Muyl scored, Aníbal Godoy added two assist and Elliot Joseph Panicco had six saves Saturday night to help Nashville SC beat the Chicago Fire 3-0 at Soldier Field in the regular-season finale for both teams. The Fire (7-18-9) finished with 30 points, fewest in the Eastern Conference. Gregg Berhalter now takes over as coach and director of football in a move the Fire announced last week. Berhalter was fired as coach of the U.S. men’s national team in July, shortly after the team was eliminated in the group stage of the Copa America tournament. Muyl cut back to evade a defender near the corner of the penalty area and then scored on a shot that deflected off a Fire player and slipped under the crossbar to give Nashville (9-16-9) a 1-0 lead in the 54th minute. Sam Surridege raced through a handful of Fire players from near midfield to the left of the penalty spot, where he tapped a rolling shot into the net to make it 2-0 in the 87th. Jacob Shaffelburg capped the scoring in the first minute of stoppage time. The 24-year-old winger slipped behind the defense and ran onto a long ball played by Godoy down the right side before slipping a shot between the legs of defender Jonathan Dean off the near post to make it 3-0.
