HOPEWELL TWP. — After getting shut out by Trenton in their final regular-season game Thursday, the Hopewell Valley High varsity boys’ soccer team exacted some revenge on its first-round opponent in the Colonial Valley Conference Tournament Saturday at Ackerson Field. With senior midfielder Henry Seas providing a goal and an assist in the first seven minutes of play, head coach Ed Gola’s fifth-seeded club built a two-goal lead on the way to a 6-2 win over 12th-seeded West Windsor-Plainsboro High North. With the victory, the Bulldogs (8-8-1) advance to play at fourth-seeded Notre Dame (14-5) at 6:30 p.m. Monday in a CVCT quarterfinal. The Irish advanced with a 8-1 win over 13th-seeded Nottingham yesterday. “We were trying to find a lot of excuses after (Thursday’s) game,” Seas said. “Instead, we came out with more energy today, and didn’t let that game sink in our heads.” Seas got Hopewell off on the right foot when he converted a pass from classmate Manny Thacher 4:15 into the game. He then came back to lead another classmate, Andrew Halko, for a winner with 33:02 still left in the first half. “Three games ago, I scored a goal 30 seconds in,” Seas said. “In fact, my last four goals have been scored in the first three minutes.” On a team like Hopewell Valley with multiple scorers, that is trouble as head coach Venkat Ramaprasad’s squad learned. Thacher came back to score two more (one in each half). His second came between second-half scores by Archie and Henry Seas. WW-P North senior John Agogliati scored twice in the final 10 minutes to cut into the 6-0 lead, but could not keep the Northern Knights from a consolation game next week.
