Preliminary investigations revealed that the driver of a Toyota Sequoia was speeding westbound on 8th Street when they hit a Cadillac Escalade parked on the road.
The impact of the crash caused a ricochet effect on several other cars. Police said the Cadillac hit a Chevrolet Equinox, which then hit a Toyota Corolla.
After striking the Cadillac, the driver of the Sequoia was redirected to the opposite side of the street, where they hit both a Nissan Altima and a Nissan Versa, according to KCPD.
Police said the Sequoia then overturned, causing the driver to be ejected. Crash reports indicate that the driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was the only person in the SUV at the time of the crash.
Once police and emergency responders arrived, the driver was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
They are currently in critical condition, according to KCPD.
