Wickliffe Service Director Ron Strauser recently reported the city has had positive feedback regarding the timing of the lights at the Rockefeller Road intersection. “Wait times are much shorter,” he said. “There has been one accident and another was barely avoided. The traffic department has been tweaking the timings, however they are limited in what adjustments can be made since the pattern was set up by the state and CT Consultants engineers.” Without approval from the two organizations, Strauser said he does not want to jeopardize the city with any major changes. “There is still the possibility of adding the turn arrows, but this has not been approved,” he said. “They are monitoring the intersection and they will put up a sign noting the intersection is still being evaluated.” Earlier this summer, the Ohio Department of Transportation reported that construction commenced to upgrade the five-way intersection into a four-way. The project is to also include traffic signal replacements and upgrades, signing, striping, vehicle detection, curbs, ADA curb ramps and sidewalks. Prior to the project, the city applied to the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency for a Congestion, Mitigation, Air Quality Control grant. As a result, Wickliffe received $282,800 from NOACA. Wickliffe Mayor Joe Sakacs has reported that the Rockefeller Road, Ridge Road and Buena Vista Drive intersection has since improved, but it’s still a work in progress. “I know some times are better than others, but some residents I’ve talked to said they are pleased,” he said. “The traffic seems to be a lot better since the new controllers have arrived.”
