HAMMOND, La. (WGNO) — A large fire at a commercial structure in Hammond was extinguished by the Hammond Fire Department on Saturday, Oct. 19. The blaze was first reported by the HFD on their Facebook page at 6:24 a.m. It reportedly occurred near Highway 190 West and the local Lowes. Highway 190 was reportedly shut down from Lowes to Westin Oaks Drive, but has since been reopened. RTA offers free rides on early-voting Saturdays and election day At 9:53 a.m., the HFD's Facebook page announced in an update that the fire had been extinguished. Hammond firefighters worked alongside Natalbany, Albany, Ponchatoula and Independence fire fighters, as well as the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office, the Hammond Police Department and the Tangipahoa Parish Government.
