Meat and poultry products recalled due to potential listeria contamination were shipped to over a dozen Jersey City district schools, according to a new list released by the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service.“On Friday, October 11, 2024, we immediately identified recalled items in our schools,” Superintendent of Schools Norma Fernandez told The Patch. “The recall impacted the pre-plated meal items served in some schools. Since the District was closed on Monday, October 14, 2024, the distributing company picked up all the recalled items from all identified schools early on Tuesday, October 15, 2024.”She added that JCPS will continue to follow all the USDA recall recommendations.In an update shared Thursday, FSIS released a “preliminary list” of hundreds of schools that received the recalled ready-to-eat products from BrucePac. Symptoms can appear shortly after consuming contaminated food or up to 10 weeks later.
