GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) -- A now former Georgetown County Detention Center officer is behind bars following a sex act with an inmate, Sheriff Carter Weaver said on Saturday night.
Peter Sawyer is charged with sexual misconduct in office following a probe by the criminal investigative division and South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. Weaver said Sawyer was fired.
The incident occurred on Sept. 11 in a female inmate's cell. Sawyer's body camera was off during the time, according to arrest warrants provided by Georgetown County authorities.
Sawyer was transported to a regional detention center where he's awaiting a bond hearing.
