EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) -- Dallas Cowboys legend and Pro Football Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith will join El Paso mayoral candidate Renard Johnson on Monday, Oct. 21 for the first day of early voting, Johnson's campaign announced. "In an effort to get El Pasoans excited about voting, Smith and Johnson will spend time knocking on doors of voters in El Paso on Monday morning where they will personally escort one El Paso voter to the polls to cast their ballot," Johnson's campaign said in a news release. Johnson said: “I’m honored to have my dear friend, Emmitt, visit El Paso on the first day of early voting. We’ve had a lot of interest from voters and Cowboys fans who are eager to head to the polls to cast their ballot. I hope this helps get people excited about voting this year." Smith will remain at two predetermined polling locations for up to 30 minutes, greeting voters, and campaigning for Johnson on Monday morning, according to the Johnson campaign. Johnson is one of eight candidates running for El Paso mayor. Current Mayor Oscar Leeser is term-limited and cannot run for re-election.
