NEW SALEM, N.D. (KXNET) — Firefighters in New Salem rushed to action on the afternoon of Wednesday, October 16th, after a fire broke out in a local cornfield. According to a Facebook post from the New Salem Fire Department, around 1:15 p.m. on the day in question, firefighters received a report of a fire breaking out in the field. They arrived to discover that the fire was headed northwest toward dry prairie grasses. Crews on site after water break near Minot school Thanks to assistance from a landowner with a disc to cut a fireline and firefighters who worked to extinguish the blaze, the corn field fire was contained at roughly three acres in size.
