A man was arrested Friday, October 11 Trenton Police Detectives for an armed robbery of a dog that occurred on October 2. The incident took place on the 200 block of Academy Street, where a suspect approached a woman walking her dog, Nola. The suspect attempted to grab the dog’s leash, and when the victim resisted, he brandished a handgun, took the leash, and fled with the 4-month-old dog. Brian Howard was identified as the suspect following an investigation led by Detective Dawid Modzelewski. The Trenton Police Department Robbery Unit, TPD Crime Suppression Unit, and New Jersey State Police Crime Suppression Unit Central assisted in the case. A search warrant was executed at Howard’s property with help from the Mercer County Tactical Response Team. Howard was taken into custody without incident. Detectives recovered a firearm believed to be used in the robbery and found Nola, who was returned to her owner. Howard faces charges of robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, certain person not to possess a weapon, and stalking.
