WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Howard University Homecoming is now in full swing, with tens of thousands of people flocking to its campus in Shaw. “It’s always good to come back and see all the friends we made along the journey,” Roman Stephens, a Howard alum, said. “Especially me, class of ‘92. It’s been a lot of moons that have gone down to always come back and reconnect with really good friends you made here at Howard.” Stephens traveled in from Houston for the weekend. Making it even more special this year, was the chance to celebrate homecoming with his daughter Zoey, who is now a sophomore at Howard. Howard University police prepare for large crowds for 100th homecoming celebration “I chose Howard honestly because of my dad,” Zoey Stephens said. “He always talks about the great experience he had and the connections he made. And every time he talked about it he was happy, like, 'Howard, oh HU, you know.'” This year marks a milestone for Howard homecoming, as the university celebrates its 100th homecoming weekend. “This is our 100th homecoming so it’s very exciting,” Vangi Caver, an alum from Atlanta, said. “And again, with the presidential campaign going on it’s just a very exciting time for us here at the university … Kamala Harris is one of our alums and she’s running to be our president.” The Howard University football team will take on Tennessee State for the annual homecoming game at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.  The community parade runs along Georgia Avenue Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until noon.
