Class 5A 1. Mountain Vista (8-0) won at Fruita Monument, 49-6: The Golden Eagles freight train kept chugging along on the Western Slope as Austyn Modrzewski broke the state’s career passing touchdown record (131) in another rout. Mountain Vista has now topped 40 points in all but one game while allowing 51 total for the season. Next week: vs. Rock Canyon, 7 p.m. Oct. 25. 2. Cherry Creek (7-1) won at Eaglecrest, 44-0: The Bruins took control early with a blocked punt for a safety and a 60-yard return TD from Elijah Cromwell on the very next play and never looked back in their eighth straight Centennial League win. Junior QB Brady Vodicka threw a pair of TD passes, including a highlight-reel grab from senior Jeremiah Hoffman on a 30-yard strike, and ran for another to give Creek a 30-0 halftime lead that was never challenged. Next week: vs. Smoky Hill, 7 p.m. Oct. 24. 3. Columbine (7-1) lost vs. No. 6 Ralston Valley, 35-34, OT: The last of senior running back James Basinger’s three TDs pulled the Rebels within one point of the Mustangs in OT, but the ensuing two-point conversion was stuffed by Ralston Valley and Columbine’s 21-game win streak came to an end. Next week: at Denver South, 6 p.m. Oct. 25. 4. Legend (7-1) won at Fountain-Fort Carson, 49-0: Ryken Banks ran in a pair of TDs — his second triggered a running clock in the third quarter — as one of six Titans ball-carriers to score, and the Legend defense posted its fourth shutout in its current five-game win streak. Next week: vs. Douglas County, 7 p.m. Oct. 25. 5. Valor Christian (7-1) won at ThunderRidge, 47-0: Junior QB Dawson Olk had three TDs passing and one running and the Eagles converted five straight two-point conversions to trigger a running clock in the third quarter. Senior Cash Spence scored three TDs, one running and two receiving, and the Valor defense has now allowed just six points over its last eight quarters after getting humbled by Mountain Vista. Next week: vs. Fruita Monument, 7 p.m. Oct. 25. 6. Ralston Valley (7-1) won at No. 3 Columbine, 35-34, OT: QB Zeke Andrew tossed three TD passes, two going to sophomore Levi Rillos, and the Mustangs defense stuffed Columbine on a game-winning two-point conversion attempt in overtime to escape with a massive 5A Metro League win. Next week: vs. No. 9 Denver East, 7 p.m. Oct. 25. 7. Pine Creek (5-3) won vs. Chaparral, 41-8: The Pine Creek defense nearly kept an opponent out of the end zone for the second straight week, jumping ahead 41-0 in the third quarter to trigger a running clock and move to 5-0 against teams not ranked in the Post Preps 5A top five. Next week: vs. No. 10 Regis Jesuit, 1 p.m. Oct. 26. 8. Fairview (8-0) won at Brighton, 35-7: The Knights defense rebounded from its worst showing of the season (48 points allowed vs. Fort Collins) with a dominant effort against the Bulldogs and senior Jordan Rechel ran in three touchdowns to move to 75 in his highly decorated prep career. Next week: vs. Fossil Ridge, 7 p.m. Oct. 25. 9. Denver East (5-3) lost vs. Arvada West, 29-21: Arvada West rallied from 14 points down in the second half to hand the Angels a heartbreaking loss. Junior RB Jaiden Green scored a TD to pull the Wildcats within seven and junior QB Logan Duhachek found Ian Morgan for another before a two-point conversion put them ahead for good. Kevin Sanchez’s late pick-6 iced it. Next week: at No. 6 Ralston Valley, 7 p.m. Oct. 25. 10. Regis Jesuit (5-3) won vs. Douglas County, 51-7: Freshman QB Luke Rubley hooked up with three different receivers on TD passes, Jack Manthey connected on three field goals and freshman Colt Jones returned a kick 95 yards as the Raiders cruised to their fifth straight win. Next week: at No. 7 Pine Creek, 1 p.m. Oct. 26. Class 4A 1. Pueblo West (8-0) won at Widefield, 41-0: The Cyclones scored all 41 of their points by halftime while the defense posted its third shutout of the season. Pueblo West has just one hurdle left between it and a Week 10 showdown with No. 3 Montrose. Next week: vs. Falcon, 7 p.m. Oct. 25. 2. Dakota Ridge (7-1) won at Highlands Ranch, 47-7. Dakota Ridge rampaged for 251 yards and five touchdowns on the ground in its seventh straight win, while quarterback Kellen Behrendsen was almost perfect for the second straight game. The junior completed 8 of 9 passes for 184 yards and a touchdown and is now 28 of 33 for 533 yards over his last three starts. Next week: vs. Golden, 7:30 p.m. Oct. 25. 3. Montrose (8-0) won at No. 5 Mesa Ridge, 32-28: Elijah Womack and Chase Mehan ran in two TDs apiece, Montrose converted all four of its two-point tries and the Red Hawks left the Springs with a massive win. The Red Hawks didn’t attempt a single pass on offense, instead leaning on their imposing offensive line to grind away at the Mesa Ridge defense. The biggest statement came on their final drive of the game — a clock-consuming 10-minute march that allowed the Red Hawks to kneel out the game. Next week: at Widefield, 6 p.m. Oct. 25. 4. Broomfield (7-1) won vs. Grand Junction Central, 42-0: Colin Torres ripped off a long touchdown run on the Eagles’ first possession, Joe Larsen punched in a score not long after that and Broomfield cruised from there in its third straight shutout victory. Next week: vs. No. 7 Riverdale Ridge, 7 p.m. Oct. 25. 5. Mesa Ridge (5-3) lost vs. No. 3 Montrose, 32-28: Senior QB Bryce Riehl ran for a TD and threw for another to pull the Grizzlies within four early in the fourth quarter, but the Mesa Ridge offense never saw the ball again. Montrose’s ground-and-pound attack proved too much, and Mesa Ridge followed up a three-point loss to No. 1 Pueblo West with yet another heartbreaker. Next week: vs. Doherty, 7 p.m. Oct. 24. 6. Palmer Ridge (7-1) won vs. No. 8 Vista Ridge, 42-7: The Bears’ mastery of Vista Ridge continued as Avian Elvira and Jack Mabe ran in two touchdowns apiece and the Palmer Ridge defense came within a fourth-quarter score of a shutout in their third straight win. Palmer Ridge has now beaten Vista Ridge five times in the last four years, with the last two wins coming by a combined score of 83-7. Next week: at Rampart, 5:55 p.m. Oct. 24. 7.
