ONONDAGA COUNTY – Each of the Jamesville-DeWitt/Fayetteville-Manlius and East Syracuse Minoa/Liverpool gymnastics teams got in one more meet against each other before the Section III championships late this week at Valley Gymnastics. It took place Thursday night, with J-D/FM prevailing 137.20-121.30 amid a close all-around race between Mia Arvidson, Erin Buckles and Ailey Babakian. Arvidson scored 9.3 on floor exercise and 9.2 on uneven bars to win both apparatus. Adding an 8.7 balance beam routine and 8.2 vault, Arvidson finished at 35.4, nearly a full point clear of Buckles’ 34.5. It was Buckles winning on the beam with 9.0, the same score she recorded on uneven bars, while Babakian was second on those bars with 9.1 and scored 8.0 on the beam, her 34.4 all-around score a tenth of a point behind Buckles. For ESM/Liverpool, Madeline Marquart snared a victory on the vault, her 8.4 two-tenths of a point ahead of Arvidson as Julie Pease was third with 8.1, but scored even better on the floor, a 9.0 to tie for second with Rylee Gorzka. ESM/Liverpool had a meet last Tuesday against Central Square, where Madison Balintfly had the Spartans’ best all-around total in a 124.05-118.90 defeat to the Redhawks. Balintfly won the vault with a score of 8.0. She also had 6.8 on uneven bars on the way to 33.9 all-around, just behind the 33.9 from Alexis Dashno, who put up 9.25 on floor exercise and 8.85 on balance beam. Gorzka scored 8.8 on her floor routine and finished second, with Pease third scoring 8.7. Breelyn Grevelding got 6.3 on uneven bars, won by Dashno’s 7.7.
