Daniel Dunn-Imagn Images Sochan, Branham and Wesley will be under contract until the 2026 offseason at minimum while Wembanyama should be in San Antonio for a long time. After finishing their preseason, the Spurs did some housekeeping by picking up Victor Wembanyama's third-year option and the fourth-year options of Jeremy Sochan, Malaki Branham, and Blake Wesley. Sochan, Branham and Wesley were selected 9th, 20th and 25th, respectively, in the first round of the 2022 NBA draft. Sochan immediately became a starter and has logged over 3,500 minutes in a Silver and Black jersey already, so there was no question that the Spurs would pick up his option. Things weren’t as clear-cut for Branham and Wesley, who have had their up and downs as pros. Branham got opportunities to establish himself as a part of the core but was too inconsistent to do it. Wesley spent a lot of time in Austin developing in the G League and showed improvement in preseason but there are still questions about his future in the league. The front office clearly believes the two young guards still have potential and intends to keep them around to help them reach it. There was no way Wembanyama’s option would be declined since the 2023 No. 1 overall selection exceeded everyone's lofty expectations of him as a rookie and projects to be a superstar. Barring a disaster, the Spurs will pick up his fourth-year option next offseason and will eventually offer him a max contract before he enters restricted free agency. The four-year rookie contract and the inevitable extension should keep the big man in San Antonio for several years before he even reaches unrestricted free agency.
