Blaisdell Center will be illuminated in the colors of the Philippine flag—red, blue, and yellow—starting at sunset on October 18, 2024. Filipino American History Month, celebrated each October, acknowledges the history, culture, and achievements of Filipino Americans, one of the largest ethnic groups in Hawaii. DCR launches recruitment campaign to address staffing shortages The observance coincides with a key historical date: October 18, 1587, when the first Filipinos arrived in the continental United States at Morro Bay, California, marking the start of a lasting relationship between Filipinos and the U.S. Mayor Rick Blangiardi praised the Filipino community, stating, “Our Filipino Americans are the foundation and an integral part of our diverse and vibrant city. Their invaluable contributions to Honolulu, from healthcare to education and business, have enriched the very soul of our community. We trust that lighting Honolulu Hale and Neal S.
