The runaway machine otherwise known as the Lake Catholic football team continued its dominating season on Oct. 18 with a 31-12 over Canton Central Catholic. With the win, the Cougars improve to 9-0 and remain in first place in the Division IV, Region 13 playoff ranks. Frankie Trinetti threw for 172 yards and two touchdowns, Jimmy Gibbons ran for 151 yards and a touchdown and Ace Peterlin caught a touchdown pass to lead to Cougars. • Kenston ran out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter and cruised to a 42-0 win over South that clinched at least a share of the WRC title. Senior Cohen Clark ran for 114 yards and three touchdowns, Lucas Kaltenbach threw for 158 yards and a score and Tymir Cardona caught a touchdown pass for the Bombers (6-3, 4-0 WRC). • Kirtland improved to 9-0 with a 37-6 win over Crestwood that clinched at least a tie for the CVC Valley Division title. John Silvestro ran for 207 yards and two touchdowns, while Danny Alfieri ran for 131 yards and three scores for the Hornets. • Donovan Moorhead threw two second-half touchdown passes to lift Hawken to a 20-6 win over Harvey and improve the Hawks’ record to 8-1 heading into next weekend’s winner-take-all CVC Chagrin battle with Perry. • Perry defeated West Geauga, 63-7, behind Walter Moses’ big night. Moses completed 10 of 12 passes for 198 yards and three touchdowns for Perry (8-1), which will play Hawken next week for the CVC Chagrin title. Moses also ran for a score. Carter Hopkins ran for 121 yards and three scores for the Pirates. • Chardon improved to 6-2 with a 42-7 win over North and in doing so wrapped up a Division III, Region 9 playoff berth. Caleb Hewitt ran for 76 yards and a touchdown for the Hilltoppers, while Beckett Dotson ran for 66 yards and two scores. North was led by Drake Martinez’s 84 yards rushing and his team’s lone touchdown run. • Chris Maloney ran for two touchdowns and Giovanni Iacapo threw two touchdown passes as Benedictine defeated Brush, 39-0. The Bengals limited the Arcs to 35 total yards, including negative-four yard rushing. Benedictine is now 7-2. • Mikey Malone ran for 122 yards and three touchdowns as University defeated Dohn Academy, 34-0. The win improves the Preppers’ record to 3-5. – Berkshire lost to Fairfiew, 43-29, in CVC Valley Division play. Justin Phillips ran for 147 yards and four touchdowns for the Badgers, who are now 6-3. Even the loss, Berkshire clinched a Division V, Region 17 playoff berth. – Logan Ruscin only carried four times, but he ran for 171 yards and a touchdown as Wickliffe defeated Brooklyn, 42-8. With the win, Wickliffe improved to 6-3 and clinched a Division VI, Region 21 playoff berth. Frankie Bucar ran for a touchdown and also threw a 41-yard touchdown pass for the Blue Devils. – Chagrin Falls defeated Cardinal, 43-7, and in doing so clinched a Division V, Region 17 playoff berth. Jake Gellin ran for 102 yards and Jacob Kay ran for 65 to lead the Tigers. – VASJ defeated Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary, 37-13, and clinched a Division III, Region 9 playoff berth.
