Police investigating after possible human remains found in Northeast DC

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) --The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said its investigating after possible human remains were found in Northeast D.C.

Police said that at about 11:45 a.m., they were dispatched to the rear of a residential building in the 4300 block of Brooks Street for reports of remains found by workers.

When officers arrived at the scene, they saw what seemed to be human remains at the scene.
Officers focused on the area next to the dumpsters behind a home and near a small apartment building there.
MPD said they don't know the sex or age of the deceased.
DC News Now's Randi Bass was on scene and saw forensics crews come through and take photos and canvass the area.
Teams from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) loaded the remains into a black van and drove away from the scene.

OCME will determine the cause and manner of death.
MPD’s Homicide Branch is investigating this case.
