ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A police trainee was arrested and accused of cyberstalking a woman, planning a kidnapping, distributing child sexual abuse material, and more. Casey Medina, 33, is charged with attempted kidnapping, distribution, receipt, and possession of child pornography, cyberstalking, and aiding and abetting. Medina lived in Rochester but was an Avon Police Department trainee at the time of his arrest in August. The investigation began in May, when a 31-year-old woman told police she was receiving lewd text messages from unknown numbers. According to prosecutors, some of the messages included photographs of the woman's face superimposed on pornographic images. Other messages included direct threats that she would be kidnapped, raped, sexually abuses, or killed. Prosecutors said the messages took place continually over the course of 26 days in May, then occasionally throughout June and July. In August, another person contacted police to say they were in contact with someone using the screen name “crcdal” on social media. They said “crcdal” — who police identified as Medina — gave them the woman's home address, work address, phone number, and photos and discussed abducting, drugging, and raping her. According to prosecutors, an undercover investigator was able to contact Medina online at that point. He allegedly discussed abducting, drugging, and raping the woman with the undercover investigator in those conversations. Medina was arrested on August 22. Police searched his cell phone, where prosecutors said they found images and videos of child sexual abuse material that he shared online. Medina faces between five and 20 years in prison if convicted.
