SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- Red Bull Sky Line is set to debut in San Francisco on October 19, celebrating the Bay Area skate scene with a competition featuring professional and local skaters. Saturday's event will take place at Twin Peaks, a cultural landmark for Bay Area skateboarding. Skaters will compete individually on a specially designed course, judged on their creativity, flow, and technical skill. Participants set to compete include Red Bull athletes TJ Rogers and Marcelo Jiminez, along with professional skaters Jonathan Perez and Jack Curtin. Bay Area pioneer Chico Brenes, who honed his skills in the underground scene at Embarcadero Plaza, and San Francisco skater Karl Watson will serve as event judges. Watson said, "I always saw Twin Peaks as an inspiration point. And there was a different kind of appreciation for the view from Twin Peaks, because we grew up looking at them and desiring to go up there on our own." The course for Red Bull Sky Line includes a mix of street and transition obstacles like quarter pipes, rainbow rails, and bumps to barriers, along with ramps to salvaged bike racks and dumpsters. The public is invited to attend the free event from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Event organizers wrote, "Often referred to as the first city of skate culture, San Francisco has played a crucial role in the sport's popularity, producing some of the most influential skaters and groundbreaking tricks in its history. From the iconic bricks of Embarcadero, synonymous with technical progression and manual tricks, to the recently revived Pier 7, skaters across generations have transformed the urban landscape into a medium for creativity and expression."
