Group caught after allegedly pointing gun at teen from stolen golf cart in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A firearm was recovered after officers were called to a report of an alleged assault of a teenager on Wilbraham Avenue in Springfield.

According to the Springfield Police Department, at around 6 p.m. on Thursday a teenager reported he had a firearm pointed at him by a person on a golf cart with a group of four or five other teenagers. The golf cart, reportedly stolen from American International College, was located by detectives and those allegedly involved were identified.
A suspect who attempted to run away was identified as 28-year-old Nelson Cruz of Springfield, who allegedly tossed a firearm over a fence. He was taken into custody in the area of the 300 block of Walnut Street. The firearm was located behind the fence.
Cruz is charged with carrying a firearm without a license and receiving stolen property of more than $1,200. Two minors were also arrested however, Springfield police did not release their names or charges due to their age.
