SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - If you're looking for a new furry friend, this weekend is the time to make a move! Pet vaccine clinic at Second Chance Animal Services in Orange Dakin Humane Society is reducing adoption fees on all available pets by 50 percent this weekend. It's part of "Subaru Loves Pets" which is a national Subaru initiative to help shelter animals.  Dozens lined up at Dakin today to adopt their furry companions after adoption prices were cut in half. Among the animals up for adoption were birds, cats, and dogs they rescued from Hurricane Helene. "At Steve Lewis Subaru, one of our favorite Love Promise events is Subaru Loves Pets,” stated Joe Clark, general manager at Steve Lewis Subaru.  “Our brand is synonymous with dogs and we encourage our customers to bring in their dogs whenever they can.  Our staff loves it!  In addition, we also cherish our ability to work with local organizations, schools and businesses.  We take great pride in participating in whatever way we can whether it's through sponsorships, attending events or volunteering.  Organizations like Dakin are a perfect fit for us and we look forward to working with them every year.  We have seen first hand the care, attention and dedication they have caring for and finding homes for their animals." This nationwide initiative aims to support as many shelter animals as possible. The adoption fee for cats or dogs at Dakin includes spay and neuter surgery, examinations, vaccinations, and deworming treatments. "The shelter is never the same as a home, and a home is where a pet belongs and our goal at Daikin is always to promote the human pet bond and to see that they can be together and just enjoy each other's company and love," said Spokesperson for Dakin Humane Society, Lee Chambers. Over 600 Subaru dealers are working with the ASPCA this month to provide grants to local shelters, resulting in over $3 million in donations. And if you didn't get a chance to adopt today you will have another opportunity to tomorrow. Dakin will be open from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. for those looking to adopt a pet.
