SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) - The Congressional Black Caucus kicked off their swing state bus tour for the Harris-Walz campaign in Savannah Friday morning. As the election draws closer, both candidates are trying to mobilize voters in swing states, like Georgia. Specifically, they're trying to reach minority voters in the state, a key demographic in many counties. With just over half of people in Savannah identifying as Black according to the latest U.S. Census numbers and Chatham being one of the larger counties in Georgia, both candidates' campaigns say they're working hard to bring in Black votes in and around the area. An October poll of Black voters in all swing states from the Howard University Initiative on Public Opinion shows 82% support Harris. Only eight percent support Trump, and eight percent are undecided. The one demographic some believe Trump could be gaining on Harris with though: Black men. In the September edition of the poll , over 20% of Black males under 50 said they would vote for Trump. "Minority communities were doing better under the Trump administration that they currently are under the Biden Harris administration. I think that reality sells more than any talking point in a campaign can do," State Rep. Steven Sainz (GA-180), said. At the bus tour event though, Harris supporters dismissed any worries about her polling. "Reports that black males are falling away or drifting away from Kamala hares are reports that I think you should take with a grain of salt. I think black men are going to be strong, as we have in the past for democrats, for this black woman Kamala Harris." Rep. Hank Johnson, (GA-4), said. Harris released an opportunity agenda for Black men earlier this week. "Our Vice President, she's talked about building three million homes, making housing more affordable, providing more access to small businesses to start and grow their businesses, to invest in a pipeline of black teachers, particularly black men educators," Rep. Steven Horsford (D-NV), Chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus, said. The Trump campaign says they're confident as well, touching on some of the same priorities. "Trump has promised to bring historic access to capital for small businesses, and that's not only of interest to that certain demographic, but that's a benefit to all of us," Sainz said.
