SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – As a part of the President Street Railroad Crossing Elimination Study, the public is asked to provide feedback. Chatham County, the city of Savannah and the Coastal Region Metropolitan Planning Organization (CORE MPO), are conducting a study on eliminating the railroad crossing on President Street at the intersection of the Truman Parkway. Passing trains can cause extensive delays for the tens of thousands of vehicles that use President Street to travel to and from downtown Savannah every day. Solutions for busy Savannah rail crossing discussed, could take years A short survey is now online asking a series of questions like, "How often do you experience delays due to the rail crossing?" and "Which of the following would you prefer to see for bike and pedestrian facilities?" The public will also have the opportunity to provide feedback during a meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 30, at AB Williams Elementary School (1150 Wheaton St.) from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The study will take a look at traffic volumes, safety conditions and costs and account for anticipated growth, particularly for industrial areas east of the Truman.
