WHITE SANDS, N.M. (KRQE) – New Mexico’s famous Trinity Site will once again open up to visitors on Saturday. The open house allows people to visit the site where the world’s first atomic bomb exploded on July 16, 1945.  Visitors will be able to access the site at the Stallion Gate off of highway 380, with the event beginning at 8 a.m. The gate will close at 2 p.m. with the event officially ending at 3:30 p.m. Albuquerque woman arrested for stealing ambulance, crashing it at construction site, police say Previously, there were two open houses each year, one in the spring and one in the fall, but that changed due to changes with the Army and White Sands Missile Range’s budget, White Sands Missile Range Public Affairs told KRQE back in January. The changes forced the cancellation of this year's open house in April. The open house schedule is now set for the third Saturday of October each year, according to the Army's webpage for White Sands Missile Range. Last year, more than 4,000 people showed up to the Trinity Site open house. White Sands Missile Range anticipated a large group due to the increased interest in the “Oppenhiemer” movie.
