Oct 18, 2024
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — There were some tense moments in the courtroom Friday with opening statements and witnesses on the stand testifying to what they recall in the the murder of Miya Brophy-Baermann, who was shot and killed by Isaiah Pinkerton on Olney Street.
Prosecutors and police said Pinkerton killed Brophy-Baermann in a drive-by shooting in August 2021.
This trial is focusing on Pinkerton’s alleged accomplice, Shawn Mann, who is not accused of pulling the trigger but rather being in the car when shots were fired at Brophy-Baermann.
Brophy-Baermann was 24-years-old at the time and according to her boyfriend, Pinkerton and Mann drove by while the two were standing by her Honda Accord on Olney Street as they were saying goodbye after a night out.
Pinkerton and Mann were apparently under the impression the man with Brophy-Baermann was a rival gang member.
Pinkerton was given two life sentences at the Adult Correctional Institutions for murder and related assault and firearms charges in January.
The judge handling Mann’s case said the trial is expected to last about two weeks.
