MIDDLEBORO, Mass. (WPRI) — A Middleboro home was condemned Friday after animal control officers found more than a dozen dogs living in deplorable conditions, according to police. Middleboro Animal Control officers responded to the Precinct Street home to execute a search warrant as part of an animal welfare investigation. Police said the officers discovered 17 dogs living in filth with inadequate access to food and water. The dogs are all in need of medical care, however, police said one required immediate attention and was removed from the home. The other 16 dogs, as well as two cats, a turtle and a guinea pig, are in the process of being rescued by the Middleboro Health Department with support from surrounding agencies, including Wareham Animal Control. The Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals also executed a criminal warrant for horses living on the property, according to police. Police said the house was condemned due to several health and fire hazards. No criminal charges have been filed at this time as the investigation remains ongoing.
