PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (WPRI) — The investigation continues into the cause of a fire that tore through a Portsmouth home earlier this week. The Sea Spray Drive home went up in flames Tuesday night. State Fire Marshal Tim McLaughlin confirmed the home was under construction at the time and no one was inside. McLaughlin said the cause of the fire "has yet to be determined." "The state has its best firefighters and investigators working on this case," he said. "We strongly discourage public speculation until all the facts of the situation have been gathered, examined and confirmed." The unoccupied home burned down to its frame and collapsed as a result, McLaughlin said. It has been deemed a total loss. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox.
