LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Fall is here and Halloween is just around the corner. Lexington Parks and Recreation have been busy hosting many fall and Halloween events this month. Parks and Rec says this weekend will be very busy. “Tonight we have our final ‘Freaky Flicks’ movie at Moondance Amphitheater in Beaumont,” said Superintendent of Arts and Events, Amber Luallen. “That is the corpse bride. Tomorrow we have ‘Carve and Chip’n’. Carve your pumpkin there, we have all the tools, you can leave the mess with us. Then you leave your pumpkin with us which will then be placed on the jack o lantern trail for next week. And then Sunday of course we have our Halloween festival and parade.” At the Halloween festival and parade there will be vendors, food and a small parade before the main event, the ‘Thriller Parade’. According to Luallen, the thriller parade started around 20 years ago by the Mecca Dance Studio. “They started this event as a flash mob. It came out of the Kentucky Theater, moved onto the side walk down to third street. It was about 100 dancers and a small group of spectators and from there it has just grown.” Luallen says the thriller parade is not only a huge hit in Lexington, but also nationally. “It’s a top 10 Halloween event in the united states. 20 to 30,000 people come each year, we’ve been listed in several different places as a main destination for Halloween. So to think in the course of a little of 20 years that it has grown into this huge phenomenon, locally and nationally, is really something we’re very proud of.” She hopes that everyone can make it out the events this weekend and have some fun.
