KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Adrianna Johnson, a Kansas City, Kansas middle schooler's mom, is frustrated after someone hit her son biking to school on Monday, October 18. She’s also upset with the Kansas City Kansas Public School District. Her son suffered multiple injuries in the hit-and-run crash, and while she's upset, she's still thankful he's okay. "He has a bruised rib, elbow pain, and a couple open wounds," she explained. "Other than that, he is ok. I am just happy that he is okay. Could have been worse and I’m happy that it wasn’t, but I just don't want this happening to anyone else. If there's another child, I don't want that child to be in the predicament my son was in.” Independence School District responds to school bus incident According to Johnson, the incident could have been handled better on all fronts. "Why wouldn't you stop?" she asked. "Why wouldn’t you make sure he was ok? Why didn't you even ask him if he was ok? Get out the car. Help him get up. Something. Call 911. Something. You just chose to leave him like that. Frustrating,” Johnson says. "You should be ashamed of yourself.” She also believes Central Middle School in KCK should have done more to help her son right away. The school district said the student seemed fine when he saw the school nurse. Only later did it become apparent he might have other injuries. The incident happened at 9th Street and Homer Ave. on Monday morning. A car hit Jayden while he was biking to school. His mom says friends nearby helped get her son to school and to the nurse. "My son was able to get up and had some friends help him get into the building," Johnson explained. "Went into the nurse’s office, thinking they were going to help him, and I got called from the nurse’s office. She told me that my son got hit by a car and she said the sheriff was on the way to the school.” Johnson claims she immediately went to the school. When she got there, she says she was told to wait until the principal got there. Two JOCO cities issue boil advisory after De Soto water main break "I got there. I got into the nurse’s office. I don't see a sheriff. I don't see an ambulance. I don’t see EMTs. I don’t see anything,” Johnson said. "He (the principal) came in and he said that I would have to take him home and call 911 and make a report with police and get the ambulance here, which I found odd.” She took Jayden home, called for help, and made a report with KCKPD. An ambulance then took Jaden to the hospital for six hours of checkups. She hopes the school will be more proactive if a crime like this is reported to it again. "Just giving my son Band-Aids for open wounds. He needed medical attention,” she said. "Call 911. Don't hesitate. Don't wait to get permission from someone. Call 911." FOX4 reached out to KCKPD to see if investigators were looking into a hit-and-run in this case. We’ve only been able to confirm that police were called to the hospital by the family in order to file a report for the possible hit-and-run.
