MADISON, Wis. (WFRV) — Authorities in southern Wisconsin responded to a series of auto thefts and attempted thefts on Wednesday, including an incident involving a food delivery driver. According to a release from the Madison Police Department, around 7:15 p.m. on October 16, 2024, officers were dispatched to a restaurant on the 700 block of Gammon Rd. A food delivery driver reported that their black car was stolen after being left unlocked and running while they went inside to pick up an order. A caller reported seeing two individuals discard a black vehicle and get picked up by a white SUV with a broken window. The discarded vehicle was confirmed to be the one stolen from the restaurant. While investigating the incident on Helene Parkway, another report came in about a stolen white SUV from a store parking lot on the 4200 block of Beltline Highway. Authorities believe this vehicle was used to pick up the suspects who fled from the discarded car. A few minutes later, another individual called 911 to report their vehicle had been broken into while parked alongside the 700 block of S. Gammon Rd. In this case, the suspects damaged the steering column and ignition but were unsuccessful in stealing the vehicle. Officers attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed. Monona officers pursued the vehicle until it crashed near Fell and Moorland Roads. A 14-year-old and a 15-year-old boy were arrested and taken into custody. The Madison Police Department is handling the investigation into the crash incident, which remains ongoing.
