COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– A gold star family is one that has lost a loved one as a result of active-duty military service. Since 911, more than 20 thousand soldiers have died according to the Gold Star Organization. Another organization, Honor and Remember commemorates fallen service members through an annual event held in 19 states. On Friday morning, Oct. 18, South Carolina’s 3 day ‘Run for the Fallen’ began on the steps of the State House in downtown Columbia. The run finishes up on Sunday, Oct. 20, at Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant, SC. Categories: Local News
