Eastlake police announced that a 22-year-old man is in custody after a vehicle ended up in the Chagrin River near Trader Jack’s on Oct. 18. The department said in a news release that it was contacted at 10:24 a.m. by a Willowick police detective, who said that a vehicle was driving east on Lakeshore Boulevard “recklessly and at a high rate of speed.” Willowick police did not pursue the vehicle. Eastlake police entering the area heard that a vehicle had entered the Chagrin River from the Trader Jack’s parking lot. “It appears the vehicle had been traveling at a high rate of speed, went through a guard rail and came to rest in the water on the east side of the river,” the release stated. “Witnesses told responding officers that a male had gotten out of the vehicle, climbed up onto land and fled on foot,” the release continued. “After a brief foot pursuit, a 22-year-old male was taken into custody.” The department said that the individual was taken to Lake West Hospital with minor injuries. Officials are still investigating the incident and charges are pending.
