HUTCHINSON, Kan. (KSNW) -- A driver ended up in jail Thursday after two crashes and a short standoff at the Reno County Landfill. According to the Reno County Sheriff's Office, a Ford F350 was involved in a hit-and-run around 2:20 in the afternoon at Fourth Avenue and Hendricks in southwest Hutchinson. The driver of the vehicle that was hit was able to follow the pickup while calling 911 and giving the truck's location. An officer with the Hutchinson Police Department found the Ford F350 in the pit area of the Reno County Landfill. The officer pulled behind the truck and turned on the police car's emergency lights. Southwest Kansas girl killed in pickup, semi crash The sheriff's office says the pickup truck driver put the truck in reverse, accelerated rapidly, and crashed into the front of the patrol vehicle, disabling it. The truck drove away. Reno County Sheriff's Office deputies arrived and found the truck near the landfill's scale house. They say they tried to get the driver to pull over, but he refused. In the meantime, Hutchinson police officers set up stop sticks at the scale house, and the truck finally stopped. The sheriff's office says the driver briefly refused to get out of the truck but eventually obeyed and was arrested. It took less than an hour from the first reported crash to the arrest. A family member who was a passenger in the truck was questioned and released. The driver was booked into the Reno County jail on suspicion of: Felony interference with law enforcement, Felony flee and elude, Felony flee and elude in the commission of a felony, Intentional damage to property, Criminal damage to property and Aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer.
