RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A homicide investigation is underway for a Chesterfield man who died after being hit in the head during an "altercation" in Richmond’s Scott’s Addition neighborhood. At 2:14 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12, officers with the Richmond Police Department responded to a report of aggravated assault. Jacob Baldwin of Chesterfield, who died following an assault in Richmond. When they arrived, they found 26-year-old Jacob Baldwin down with an injury to his head near the intersection of North Sheppard and West Marshall Streets. Baldwin was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment for life-threatening injuries. On Wednesday, Oct. 16, police said he was pronounced dead. According to authorities, Baldwin was hit in the head by an unknown male suspect following an "altercation." A vigil was held for Baldwin on Friday, Oct. 18, at 11 a.m. near the site of the assault. Police and detectives are still looking for information on what may have taken place Friday night and/or early Saturday morning in Scott’s Addition leading up to Baldwin’s assault.
