If you aren’t a registered voter in South Dakota but you want to cast a ballot in the Nov. 5, 2024, general election, you have until 5pm local time on Monday (Oct. 21, 2024) to fill out a voter registration form. Johnson says if you need to request a ballot, it’s best to do that sooner rather than later. Voter registration information is available on the Secretary of State’s website at https://sdsos.gov. A voter registration form may be downloaded from the website and returned to your county auditor. In addition, you may register at one of the following locations: Driver license exam stations Public assistance agencies providing food stamps, Medicaid, TANF, or WIC Department of Human Services offices that provide assistance to the disabled Military recruitment offices Secretary of State’s Office To register to vote in South Dakota, you must: Be a US citizen, Be at least 18 years old before the next election, Reside in South Dakota for at least 30 days prior to submitting the registration form, Not be serving a sentence for a felony conviction, Not be judged mentally incompetent in a court of law. There are seven ballot measures on South Dakota’s Nov. 5, 2024, general election ballot. The Attorney General’s Office provides a neutral explanation for each of the ballot measures in the “2024 Ballot Questions” pamphlet. The pamphlet also includes information supplied by supporters and by those opposed. Additionally, the AG’s explanations are printed on the sample ballots that are currently available, as well as being printed on the actual ballots people use to vote. The information from the opponents and proponents is not printed on the actual ballots.
