NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Only in New Orleans. Only in Louisiana. And in fact, the only radio station in the world like it. It's WRBH 88.3 FM in New Orleans. WGNO Good Morning New Orleans features reporter Bill Wood is tuning you in. Bach and beer at the Crescent City Chamber Music Festival in New Orleans It's the first radio station in all of America to broadcast to the blind. That's 24 hours a day. "After I lost my sight, I thought aw man, how will I be informed," said retired New Orleans receptionist Lydia Carter Miller. While at her kitchen table, she listens to her radio. "It even goes back to my childhood when all we had was radio," said Miller. Before WIFI and TV, families would gather around the radio for everything from the funny papers to the front page headlines on WRBH reading radio. New movies starring Angelina Jolie & Ralph Fiennes at 35th annual New Orleans Film Festival Ellen Hazard has been reading books on WRBH for 40 years. "I love to read and it's my small way of giving back to the community," said Hazard. An old New Orleans house is home to the non-profit radio station. Donations pay the way with no commercials and not much music. "With the radio, I see with my ears," said Miller.
