DELPHI, INDIANA The start of the Richard Allen trial in Delphi, Indiana was delayed by ten minutes. The court confiscated five cameras belonging to four media members for taking photos and video of the jury entering the courthouse. That is a violation of the judges order. Special Judge Frances Gull instructed the media Thursday afternoon that photographs and video of the jury were strictly prohibited as they entered and exited the Carroll County Courthouse.Once the court opened, opening statements lasted about an hour. The defense urged the jurors to wait to decide telling them repeatedly that Richard Allen is innocent. The prosecution told the eight women and four men on the jury that it has plenty of evidence that would show that Richard Allen killed Abby Williams and Libby German in February 2017 near the Delphi High Bridge. After a brief recess, court resumed with the first witness being called to the stand a few minutes past 11:00 AM local time.More than 60 people waited in line outside the courthouse to get a seat in the courtroom. Some of them waited in line overnight for a chance at one of the 27 seats available to the public. Members of Abby and Libbys family were in court Friday morning, as well as members of Richard Allens family.WRTV will continue to update this article as we learn more throughout the day.
