Crews respond after train derails in Ascension Parish Friday morning

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) -- No injuries were reported and an intersection is closed after a train derailed in Ascension Parish early Friday morning.
Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the train derailment along Highway 3089 near CF Service Road around 7:30 a.m. Hazmat, fire department and Louisiana State Police also responded to the area.
According to APSO, no injuries were reported and there are no hazardous impacts. Deputies said there are no road closures and traffic is running smoothly as of 8:30 a.m.
There is no threat to the public due to the derailment, according to troopers. Louisiana Highway 70 and Louisiana Highway 3089 are closed as of 9:10 a.m.
"The Louisiana State Police Emergency Services Unit, in coordination with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Union Pacific railroad company, is actively managing the scene and beginning the cleanup process. We ask that the public avoid the area to allow crews to work quickly and safely," LSP said in a social media post.
