BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- An 8-year-old child died of his injuries after he was struck by a vehicle near a school Wednesday in central Bakersfield, police said. The Bakersfield Police Department said the child died of his injuries while he was being treated at Valley Children's Hospital. Ex-BPD officer pleads no contest to vehicular manslaughter The 8-year-old was struck by a vehicle Wednesday at around 1:45 p.m. at the intersection of Bank Street and Holtby Road near Roosevelt Elementary School. The boy suffered major injuries by a vehicle as he was walking in an unmarked crosswalk, police said. The investigation into the collision is ongoing. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Bakersfield Police Department at 661-327-7111.
