Driver at Large after Fatal Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Crash near Parmelee Avenue SOUTH LOS ANGELES, CA (October 18, 2024) – Denise Barkus was killed Monday night, in a hit-and-run pedestrian crash on Imperial Highway. The incident occurred at approximately 8:50 p.m., just west of Parmelee Avenue on October 7th. Investigators report that the driver of an unidentified vehicle struck a woman crossing the street outside of a designated crosswalk and then fled the scene without providing assistance. Medical personnel arrived and pronounced the female pedestrian dead at the location. Authorities later identified her as 62-year-old Barkus from Los Angeles. Currently, the city is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the suspect’s arrest. Authorities have described the vehicle as a two-toned silver or white sedan.
