A suspected hit-and-run driver struck a veteran Upper Darby Township police officer on his way to work Thursday morning, leaving the officer with a broken leg that required surgery. The 11-year Highway Division veteran was struck near Garrett Road and Owen Avenue in Drexel Hill on Oct. 17, 2024, Upper Darby Police Superintendent Timothy Bernhardt told NBC10. The officer — who has not been named — was rushed to the hospital with his leg broken in two places, Bernhardt said. The officer required surgery for his injury. The driver who struck the officer was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence, Bernhardt said.
