A subject who reportedly was armed with a knife died after a Banning police officer shot him Thursday morning, Oct. 17. Banning police received a call around 11:17 a.m. regarding a person armed with a knife at a local business in the 300 block of South San Gorgonio Avenue, said Lt. Brandon Smith, a spokesperson for the Banning Police Department, in a news release. Officers responded to the area, and the first officer to arrive contacted the subject, who was still armed with a knife, Smith said. The subject reportedly charged at the officer, who shot the subject. Smith declined to say how many shots the officer fired.
