12 Responds: Veteran charged twice for gym membership gets his money back
Oct 17, 2024
FALL RIVER, Mass. (WPRI) — Army veteran Robert Fortes says he injured his back in Iraq in 2003 and then faced some health issues.
"I put on weight and things like that. And I'm just trying to get better," Fortes said.
He says he started working out with a trainer on and off at Crunch Fitness in Fall River in 2021, but earlier this summer he noticed he was charged twice for his membership.
"I get billed $380, and then another week or so later, another $380," he said. "I brought it up to them. I said, 'I want to cancel everything.'"
He told 12 Responds he tried multiple times to cancel his membership and to get his money back, but had no luck."I was getting nowhere with Crunch. And you guys have a great track record of helping people out, so I reached out," he said.
12 Responds contacted the gym to find out where things stood. Days later, we were told they would refund Fortes and that they had reached out to him directly.
Fortes says he has since been fully reimbursed.
