(COLORADO SPRINGS) — After more than 70 years, Cy's Drive-In Restaurant is closing its doors in Colorado Springs. As the owners prepare for retirement, they're taking a moment to thank the community that has supported them throughout the years. While owner Kathy Micci declined to interview with FOX21 News on camera, she shared that the drive-in will close at the end of this month or early November, depending on how fast the stock runs out. If you haven't tried their green chili burger, famous shakes, or sweet potato fries yet, now's your chance. "It's a west side burger joint that I've been going to for at least 20 years now," said Shawn Green, a Colorado Springs native. "Really good burgers, good fries, good people, and family-owned, which we love." It's a bittersweet moment for Micci, who has been one of several owners since Cy Long started the drive-in in 1953. It originally operated on West Colorado Avenue before moving to its current spot on West Uintah Street in 1970. "I couldn't believe it," said Stephanie Roberts, a frequent visitor to Cy's. "They've been around forever and I mean they're packed all the time, so I didn't understand why." Micci said she is excited about retirement, but mentioned the property is being redeveloped so the future of this location is uncertain. It's clear though that the community has played a huge role in keeping Cy's alive for nearly 70 years. "Yeah, very sad," Green said. "You know we really like to support local businesses, especially on the west side, so yeah definitely sad." FOX21 chatted with some customers making their last visits, who are taking the somber news as an opportunity to get their favorite items one last time, or even try something new. "We come here a lot after school for a treat," said Luke Quickstall, and 8th grader at The University School explained. "I got the marshmallow butterscotch shake. I couldn't decide between marshmallow and butterscotch, so they combined it and it was really good." If you're not ready to say goodbye just yet, Cy's is open Tuesdays through Sundays until early November.
